The use of anion exchange resin `Amberlite IRA-400' and cation exchange resins `Amberlite IRC-50' and `Amberlite XE-89,' in a continuous column process, to treat wines to remove excess oxidized color, foreign flavors and odors, and to stabilize wines by removal of heavy molecules and proteinaceous material is considered as being consistent with good commercial practice. The restrictions imposed on non-ionic and conditioning resins by section 240.1051 of the Wine Regulations are applicable with respect to the use of such anion and cation exchange resins. Applications filed by winemakers for the use of these materials, as authorized herein, may be approved by Assistant Regional Commissioners, Alcohol and Tobacco Tax, pursuant to the provisions of section 240.1052 of the Regulations.
